CCHS is continually implementing programs to benefit the health and welfare of the county’s animals and to provide services to
financially disadvantaged pet owners in Cherokee County. Currently, we offer the following programs to the community:

Snap Foster Vaccination Adoption Catsnip Dining Spa University Recycle

SNAP

Be a responsible pet owner - have your animals spayed and neutered. This is the only answer to animal overpopulation and the needless death of thousands of animals every year. One cat can produce 1,728 cats in just THREE years, and there are not homes for them all! Altering also improves the health of your pet by greatly reducing the risk of several types of cancer, injuries from fights, and eliminates the unpleasant spraying of male cats.

BE PART OF THE SOLUTION – NOT PART OF THE PROBLEM!!

CCHS offers an extremely low cost altering program called SNAP (short for Spay-Neuter Assistance Program). It is designed to provide low cost altering of companion animals for the county’s residents who cannot afford to pay for this important procedure. If you or someone you know would like more info, please call 770-928-5115 (Option 2) and leave your name and phone number to apply or you can click here to fill out the SNAP application form.

Help us “nip” the root cause of animal overpopulation! Can you spare some time to make phone calls, provide transportation, or attend a weekday or weekend spay/neuter clinic for a few hours? Must be able to communicate with people at all socioeconomic levels. Bilingual Spanish/English Volunteers Desperately Needed!!!!

FOSTER PROGRAM

Kind people with the time and proper accommodations needed to provide temporary homes for young kittens and puppies, sick or injured animals as well as those that would otherwise be euthanized at the shelter due to limited capacity, until permanent loving homes are found. Foster parents become familiar with the unique personality of their foster child and can provide valuable information that can assist in placing the foster in the perfect forever home. What could be more rewarding than to help create a “happy ever after” ending?

There is a constant need for volunteers to assist with foster care. Please contact Caroline at wittle13@yahoo.com or call us at (770) 928-5115 ext 4, to learn more about this rewarding opportunity.

Spay and Neuter Team of Atlanta  (SANTA)

Our mission is to save the lives of hundreds of thousands of cats and dogs that are

euthanized every year in the Metro Atlanta area. By offering spays and neuters at a low

cost, SANTA can help decrease the number of unwanted litters, thus decrease the

number that are killed each year because there are simply no homes for them.

Lots of love time with the shelter animals brought on weekends from 11am-4pm (beginning/end of adoption are most crucial needs) to different locations. We need volunteer Adoption Managers who are willing to pickup animals at shelter, bring to adoption, manage the volunteers and return animals back to shelter. Some paperwork involved. Help prospective adopters make good decisions about pet selections. One or two days per month commitment desired.

Also need volunteers to assist Adoption Managers. Must enjoy hands on contact with canines and felines and working with the public. Also must be able to clean up accidents and cages at end of adoption. Adult supervision suggested for anyone 17 or younger BUT not necessarily required. Depends on age and maturity of the volunteer.

PROJECT CATSNIP

Project CatSnip is Atlanta's first and only mobile feline surgical unit specializing in spay/neuter. Our purpose is to end feline  overpopulation in Atlanta by making crucial spay/neuter and identification services affordable and accessible for those on restricted incomes or who are caring for doorstep, stray and feral cats.

A mobile practice goes where the problems are and  makes spaying/neutering accessible to more cat owners, especially those dealing  with outdoor cats, affordability, accessibility and reluctance to spay/neuter at an  early age are among the chief reasons why cats produce unwanted  litters.

For more information, please visit Atlanta Animal Alliance or call Project CatSnip at 770-448-6806.

DINING FOR PETS

Enjoy the company of your friends & family - help an animal get adopted!

Hosting an event is easy. You simply choose a date and type of party that fits your life. You may also choose to have your "Dining for Pets" event at the restaurant or other facility of your choice.

Your guests then make a tax-deductible donation for what a similar night on the town would cost (with a little extra included hopefully). We need everyone’s support to help defray the veterinary costs at the shelter and help our animals!

To host a party, please call Connie Bishop at 770/642-8805 or Janice Riccio at 770/643-6903.

DOG SPA BATH

Join a group of terrific folks on Fridays as they bathe and groom grateful dogs in preparation for going to Offsite Adoptions. They love it and you will too! Adopters have even commented that these dogs smell and feel clean. We have proof that the dog spa volunteers do make a difference! Dog Spa is every Friday at the shelter from 11am to 1:30pm

If you are interested in participating or just want more information, please email Janice

DOGGIE UNIVERSITY

Doggie U needs You!
Volunteers needed to help shelter dogs become more adoptable

We need volunteers to act as instructors for Doggie U. Doggie U will pair shelter dogs with amateur volunteer trainers who will provide them with basic training. This training will focus on basic obedience issues such as sit, stay, down, and come. It will also provide an opportunity for the dogs to practice walking nicely on a leash. Volunteers will need to commit at least one to two Saturdays per month that they can work at the shelter for an hour or two to train dogs. No previous dog training experience is required.

For more information, or to volunteer, call Bob and Beth O'Brien at 678-445-4544, email or visit Doggie University
